The Sensory Champion Award is a practical, evidence-informed online training programme designed for professionals working with school-aged or early years children. Whether you're a teacher, teaching assistant, SENDCo, or another practitioner working in education or care, this course will equip you with the skills and confidence to identify and support sensory needs in a structured and responsive way.

Course Duration: 14 hours (self-paced)

Course Objectives

  • Understand the foundations of sensory processing and how it impacts behaviour, learning and wellbeing.

  • Confidently identify pupils with potential sensory needs using the SSS Sensory Profile.

  • Create simple, effective sensory support plans tailored to pupil needs.

  • Use practical tools to implement and monitor sensory supports within the classroom or nursery environment.

  • Become a ‘sensory champion’ - able to lead small changes that make a big impact for pupils.

    Learn how to carry out a whole-classroom or setting-level audit using the SSS audit tool, identifying sensory challenges and opportunities.

  • 5. Interoception: why is it crucial to self regulation and mental well being
    Step-by-step guidance on how to create a practical, meaningful sensory support plan - often referred to as a sensory diet.

  • 6. The Ultimate Guide to Deep Pressure and Weighted Equipment

    Explore what deep pressure is, when it's helpful, and how to use items like weighted blankets or vests safely and effectively.

  • 7. Muscle Magic – The Power of Proprioception

    Discover how movement and resistance can support emotional regulation and attention, and how to build this into a school day.

  • 8. Fidgets, Wobble Cushions and Chewies

    Get a clear and honest overview of common sensory tools, their uses, and how to match them to pupil needs.

  • 9. How to Run Sensory Circuits (Half-Day Module)

    A complete introduction to planning, resourcing and running short sensory circuits to support pupils' readiness for learning.
